Accessible Steps

Wishaw Landscapes were contacted for our Landscape Design service from a couple who were tired of not being able to use their garden to its full extent. Originally their garden was split into two levels with a small patio at the bottom and a large grassed area with small patio on the top level. Due to ill health our customers had found it increasingly difficult to get out into the garden to be able to enjoy it.

One of their main concerns was their movement around their garden as they now needed the aid of a walking frame. On our first meeting it became apparent that the walker was actually wider than the steps and so getting up and down steps had to be done unaided.

To make their garden more usable we made sure that the steps we were building were deep enough to fit both our customer and her walker comfortably. The steps went from 350mm deep before we had started to 700mm deep allowing our customer to get out into the garden from their house and then up onto the top half of their garden with ease.

Now they can both enjoy the sun patio that they have had laid without the stress or difficulty of climbing the steps to reach it.
